Cortical evoked potentials (CAEP) with speech and noise stimuli in young adults and adults over 50 years of age

نویسندگان

چکیده

CAEP are not only a useful tool for objective measurement of hearing thresholds complex stimuli, but they also allow gaining information on the integrity thalamo-cortical auditory pathway. As part aging process, morphological and functional changes cochlea, nerve central pathway will lead to development slowly progressive loss. To evaluate such changes, latencies morphology after different syllable noise stimuli were investigated in normal-hearing young adults older than 50 years.

Effects of Consonant-Vowel Transitions in Speech Stimuli on Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials in Adults

We examined the neural activation to consonant-vowel transitions by cortical auditory evoked potentials (AEPs). The aim was to show whether cortical response patterns to speech stimuli contain components due to one of the temporal features, the voice-onset time (VOT). In seven normal-hearing adults, the cortical responses to four different monosyllabic words were opposed to the cortical respons...

Cortical auditory-evoked potentials (CAEPs) in adults in response to filtered speech stimuli.

BACKGROUND Previous studies have demonstrated that cortical auditory-evoked potentials (CAEPs) can be reliably elicited in response to speech stimuli in listeners wearing hearing aids. It is unclear, however, how close to the aided behavioral threshold (i.e., at what behavioral sensation level) a sound must be before a cortical response can reliably be detected. PURPOSE The purpose of this st...

Effects of ageing on speed and temporal resolution of speech stimuli in older adults

Background: According to previous studies, most of the speech recognition disorders in older adults are the results of deficits in audibility and auditory temporal resolution. In this paper, the effect of ageing on timecompressed speech and auditory temporal resolution by word recognition in continuous and interrupted noise was studied. Methods: A time-compressed speech test (TCST) w...

[Auditory evoked potentials in individuals over 50 years].

BACKGROUND auditory evoked potentials. AIM to describe the results of brainstem auditory evoked potentials (PEATE), middle latency auditory evoked potentials (PEAML) and cognitive potential (P300) in individuals over 50 years. METHOD this study was developed at the Speech and Hearing Investigation Laboratory in Auditory Evoked Potentials of the Speech-Language and Hearing Course of the Depa...

Cortical-evoked potentials reflect speech-in-noise perception in children.

Children are known to be particularly vulnerable to the effects of noise on speech perception, and it is commonly acknowledged that failure of central auditory processes can lead to these difficulties with speech-in-noise (SIN) perception. However, little is known about the mechanistic relationship between central processes and the perception of SIN. Our aims were twofold: to examine the effect...
